Ensure that you have working smoke alarms. Never disable or remove your smoke alarm’s batteries.
Stay with what you are cooking, especially when cooking @ high temperatures, like frying, grilling or broiling.
Plan & practice a home escape so you know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Pick 1 safe meeting place in the front to meet in case others need to escape from different exits of the house.
Smoking is the #1 cause of fire deaths in our city. Smoke outside. Put cigarettes out in water or sand. Watch for ashes falling into cushions. Never smoke in bed.
Unplug electrical items: toasters, coffee pots, flat/curling irons & all other heat producing items when not in use. Use surge protectors. Do not overload wall outlets.
Never leave candles unattended. Don’t go to sleep with candles lit in your house.
