Fire Safety

Tips for Fire Safety

  • Ensure that you have working smoke alarms. Never disable or remove your smoke alarm’s batteries.
  • Stay with what you are cooking, especially when cooking @ high temperatures, like frying, grilling or broiling.
  • Plan & practice a home escape so you know what to do when the smoke alarm sounds. Pick 1 safe meeting place in the front to meet in case others need to escape from different exits of the house.
  • Smoking is the #1 cause of fire deaths in our city. Smoke outside. Put cigarettes out in water or sand. Watch for ashes falling into cushions. Never smoke in bed.
  • Unplug electrical items: toasters, coffee pots, flat/curling irons & all other heat producing items when not in use. Use surge protectors. Do not overload wall outlets.
  • Never leave candles unattended. Don’t go to sleep with candles lit in your house.
